ARCC Bikes Endures the Heat to Win Award at the 2025 EV Rally: London to Brighton, the firstelectric bicycle to do so!
Cambridge, UK – Cambridgeshire bike company ARCC Bikes has become the first e-bike company to win an award at the London to Brighton Electric Vehicle Rally.
Roger Phillips and Kevin Hobbins, both employees of ARCC, cycled their Linton Electric Family Cargo Bike nearly 70 miles in 6.5 hours to claim the award that recognises technical innovation and efficiency.
“It wasn’t straightforward in the 30-degree heat,” said Roger. “The route now has many gates and stiles to lift the bike over. Lucky for us our cargo bike is much lighter than most because of its Chromoly Steel space frame and lightweight electric assist system.”
Over 80 cars and other vehicles took place in this year’s rally that finish on the Brighton seafront.
This is the first time an electric bike has won an award, and especially significant given that most cargo bikes are designed for carrying heavy loads and multiple passengers along smooth city streets, and not off-roading across fields and down tyre-puncturing tracks.
“We’re tired but very pleased to have done it,” said Kevin. “I love my cars, but as a society we don’t stop to consider the alternative methods of transport for our daily lives. We’ve become so reliant on cars for even the most basic of journeys. If we can show that our cargo bike can be ridden from London to Brighton with relative ease, then it proves it can easily handle the school run, a trip to the park, or any other kind of local journey that people make daily.”
